I gave up on Reddit a lot more easily than you did, that’s for sure. When King Julian told us that our concerns weren’t worth a damn, and when he said he wanted to emulate what Elon Musk has done to, er, with Twitter, I decided it was time to make tracks. You don’t HAVE to let heartless tech billionaires fuck you in the ass for the convenience. I don’t find this dick in the ass very convenient.
Note that the goal isn’t to build a safe haven for the troll banned from reddit, but a nice and friendly community independent from large corporation/advertissement/data mining algorithm.
Now, if you’re not unreasonably trolling, have fun here, the more people the better.

have fun
P.S. Don’t forget the language tag, a feature missing on reddit, not only it helps people filtering out the language they don’t speak, but it also make the site more accessible for people using a screen reader
You’re cooked. Same thing happened to me. I tried for a few days to see if there was any way around it, but I wasn’t about to get a VPN just to use Reddit. Or get a whole new device.
Pretty sure they have all the IPs that your account has ever connected to, so anything attempting to login from those IPs will also be banned. So that’s what you’ll have to work around, if you want to do it.
I’m no expert though, that’s just what I learned over my couple of days of trying.
+Looks like there’s no need for scouring the internet for an alternative, you’ve already found it.
VPNs aren’t working unfortunately, at least if you’re not logged in. They completely block the site when you’re trying to access reddit via VPN.
This is a VPN related forum where this is discussed.
They don’t ban solely by IP. When you’re banned, they note the IPs you use, but because most internet account IPs are not static, they watch what new accounts from the IP do. If they go to the same subreddits as the banned account, it gets the ban hammer.
I got banned from r/korea because I recorded a video of a big newsworthy fire close to the motorway, uploaded it to my own instance of PeerTube and linked to it in my post.
They said I should have uploaded it to YouTube or some other 3rd party website to not be accused of self promotion.
After two years livin g in Korea and banned fro r/korea I moved to Lemmy and deleted my whole account there.
Now I am alone posting on !korea@lemmy.funami.tech
Self promotion rule is the stupidest rule ever. I get it sometime it help filter out spamming, but this basically just switch from ad spam to astro-turfing.
You are not logged in. However you can subscribe from another Fediverse account, for example Lemmy or Mastodon. To do this, paste the following into the search field of your instance: !asklemmy@lemmy.ml

Open-ended question
Not offensive: at this point, we do not have the bandwidth to moderate overtly political discussions. Assume best intent and be excellent to each other.
Not regarding using or support for Lemmy: context, see the list of support communities and tools for finding communities below
Not ad nauseam inducing: please make sure it is a question that would be new to most members
Welcome to Lemmy, we love you.

Not a troll, but ok
oh no
anyway
What did you get banned for?
I didn’t wait long enough before posting in a subreddit.

From what I can tell it is IP address + browser fingerprinting. Possibly a little more emphasis on the browser fingerprinting.
i guess if more than one person posts from the same ip they can get fucked then

How do you get banned from Reddit? I know mods can ban from their subreddits, but getting banned from the entire site?
I can think of two things;
In my case it was trolling a troll by basically copying what he said but aiming it at him.
I got banned the original troll I was copying did not.
Or doxing, including that of fake people.
Obviously all equally terrible crimes!
“I seek vengeance”
“Why?”
“That man… he bought fake engagement on his reddit account”
I got banned for 7 days once.
I got banned after saying I’d kill Andrew Tate given the opportunity
I got banned from r/korea because I recorded a video of a big newsworthy fire close to the motorway, uploaded it to my own instance of PeerTube and linked to it in my post.

Any reason to quit reddit is a good reason.
Depends on what reddit was for you. If it was because consooom (more=better) then you might wanna try twitter next. Same goes for drama.
If you want forum style social media with mostly real people and interesting content, then you should probably stay here.
I dont know what option three would be but feel free to tell me.

I feel like the ugly girl being asked for tips to get with the pretty girl
You’re the pretty girl

I can relate to that. If you’d like, I can say stuff there on your behalf.
well, I don’t want to go back. I still have an account to search niches.
